(JW Insights) Jul 7 -- Chinese EV battery manufacturer CATL is working on new battery enabling 400 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes of charging for release later in 2023, disclosed the company’s chief scientist Wu Kai.

Wu addressed the 5th Global Auto Technology Leaders’ Summit, held during the 2023 China Auto Forum in Shanghai’s Jiading district on July 6.

CATL’s battery will achieve a 400-kilometer range with only a 5 to 7-minute charge in the future. The company has over 16,000 research and development personnel, leading the industry in research investment and patent growth, said Wu.

In Wu Kai’s view, range anxiety is no longer the core issue in the development of new energy vehicles. The Zeekr 001, with a 140-kilowatt-hour (kWh) CATL Qilin battery, has a CLTC range of 641 miles (1,032 km).

In the future, China’s new power battery technologies will focus on improving energy replenishment speed, stable performance under harsh conditions, and extreme temperatures in winter, according to Wu.
